Sustainable Waterloo Region’s 3rd Annual Photo Contest sparked community action throughout the Waterloo Region in 2011. Photos were taken of solar roofs, tree planting, and even a local office wearing sweaters because they turned down their heat, among other submissions! Photos and stories submitted were used to enhance our 2011 Report and inspired environmental awareness in the region.

To see last year’s winning entries and other photos in context, download a copy of Sustainable Waterloo Region’s 2011 Report. An example of a submission that reflects on sustainable behaviour in the community is below.

This year, we are looking for photos that highlight sustainable behaviour, whether they are taken at home, work, school or in the Waterloo Region community. All skill levels are encouraged!

To continue the development of the contest from previous years, the three categories for submissions are People and Nature, Community and Cultural Heritage, and Sustainable Action and Design. We want photos of you, your friends, family, coworkers and community members that focus on sustainable initiatives, and the stories that go with them.

With special thanks to sponsors Borealis Grille and Bar in Kitchener and Northside Trophies & Awards Inc. in St. Jacob’s, we’re thrilled to offer some great prizes for the winning photos. The winner from each of the three categories will win a lovely dinner for two from Borealis and a plaque with a mounted copy of your photo.

For more information on entering the contest, please click here. The deadline to enter is January 16, 2013 and public voting for your favourites will begin on January 21, 2013.If you have any questions about the photo contest, please don’t hesitate to email photocontest@sustainablewr.ca!

Have fun!
