(Waterloo Region, ON) July 15, 2014 – Sustainable Waterloo Region is expanding the Regional Carbon Initiative (RCI) with the launch of a new Collaborative Facility Membership option, and is excited to welcome the Marsland Centre on Erb Street as the program’s inaugural member.

Under the Collaborative Facility Membership option, building tenants are encouraged to partner with the property owner or landlord and participate in creating a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction strategy for the entire building. This collaborative approach helps solve the traditional sustainability challenges in buildings with multiple tenants and landlords. The new membership model provides an incentive for landlords and tenants to partner on projects and find mutually beneficial solutions.

As a pioneer in the program, Marsland has taken a significant step in improving their environmental sustainability. A value-added space provider that primarily deals with custom turnkey office and light manufacturing space for industries in the tech and finance sectors and operating mainly out of Waterloo, Marsland joins 62 other RCI members from diverse sectors across Waterloo Region in committing to setting voluntary GHG emission reduction goals.

“Marsland Centre Limited has always put sustainability and environmental stewardship at the forefront of our practices and we are truly excited to be partnering with the Regional Carbon Initiative to help further our impact and allow our tenants to gain a more active role in the process,” says Alexandra Marsland.

Tova Davidson, Executive Director of Sustainable Waterloo Region, is pleased to see innovative new RCI membership opportunities come to fruition, and to see property owners like Marsland Centre Ltd. excited to lead the way. “We hope their commitment to action will inspire other property owners and landlords to consider how they can reduce their GHG emissions across Waterloo Region while benefitting both their tenants and their bottom line,” she says.
