CULTURE OF SUSTAINABILITY- SUSTAINABLE HOLIDAY SERIES PART 1

Whether you are back in the office or still working remotely, holiday get-togethers and gift exchanges are just around the corner. Becoming more sustainably minded doesn’t mean forgoing gift giving for coworkers, friends and family. Here in Waterloo Region we have a number of local businesses that offer sustainable gift ideas from gift cards to handmade soaps.

Did you know that a number of our Regional Sustainability Initiative members offer gift options? Check out the list below for members that offer gift certificates, movie tickets and more.

In addition to our local restaurants, cafes and non-profits, there are a number of local shops and artisans that offer lovely handcrafted gifts.

Buying second hand is always a great choice for supporting a circular economy in our community. Try visiting consignment shops in the region such as Le Prix, Carousel Clothing, and Next Time Around

Looking for gifts to support zero waste habits in your organization? Why not gift reusable items from companies such as Zero Waste Bulk and Fenigo. Both stores offer a wide selection of zero waste items such as metal straws, beeswax wraps, reusable bags and cutlery sets. Zero Waste Bulk and Full Circle Foods also offer shoppers a way to skip packaging while stocking up on essentials.

Last but certainly not least, Waterloo Region is home to many talented artists and artisans. For one of a kind art pieces check out The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, Debbie Ellis Watercolour and Bearface Designs. Opting for greeting cards only this year? Etsy sellers Seeded Memories and DotScott Studios create beautiful greeting cards that can be planted once they have been enjoyed. For local handmade bath and body care, visit Thompson Soap Company, Be Soap Company, and Buck Naked Soap Company
